Underwood & Co was founded in 1845. In the 19th Century it served the professional men and landed families who resided in the West End of London.
Three generations of the Underwood family came and went and the firm continued to prosper in the more commercial 20th Century acting for many retail businesses, banks, accountants, surveyors, doctors and dentists.
Underwood & Co merged with Corbould Rigby & Co in 1998. Corbould Rigby & Co is able to trace its routes to the 18th Century and brought to the firm specialist expertise in the fields of property consultancy, landed estates, trusts and probate. 2004 saw the conversion of the firm into an LLP, which we perceive to be a more suitable vehicle for the efficient provision of legal services in the 21st Century.
With over 200 years legal experience behind us clients and contacts have an assurance that they are dealing with a well established company which has its sights firmly set on the future success of its business and its clients.

We understand that our clients have choice. As a service business we need to make our product stand out from that of our competitors. Of course we have the requisite legal knowledge but we aim to add to this by providing commercial solutions to assist our clients in completing business or personal transactions smoothly and quickly.“Our clients like to have significant partner involvement,” says Peter Hughes, managing partner. “We find that as a relatively small firm, clients want to know whom they’re dealing with.
